Frequently Asked Questions
Chances are the answers to your questions may be found in this section. For technical questions not covered here, please email us.
How long will the color last?
Our coatings are specially designed to resist fading and complete color loss. Natural colors such as Redwood and Brown use pigments that are naturally impervious to UV light so they will never fade. Playground colors, such as Bouncing Blue, Laughing Lilac and Tumbling Turquoise may fade slightly the first year. Our product is guaranteed against total color loss for 8 years. See warranty for details.
Will it deter weeds?
Laying EnduraGroundCover or EnduraSafe over existing weeds will not prevent them from coming back unless some ground preparations are done first. We recommend putting down a weed barrier fabric down first, then spreading Endura on the fabric. Weed barrier fabrics are available from the same store where you purchased Endura.
What is Endura made from?
Endura is produced from recycled rubber. Our largest source of rubber comes from automobile and truck tires. Our proprietary process converts tires into landscaping and playground ground covers. Our loose-fill ground cover is certified by an independent lab to be at least 99.9 percent metal free.
Does it Float/Blow?
Endura products are denser than wood mulch. As such, it stays put much better. Endura will not float away during a rainstorm. You can use a leaf blower on it to blow off loose leaves, sticks and other debris, even wood mulch.
What is the “Critical Fall Height” and why is it important?
Keeping children safe at home and at school is of paramount importance, especially on playgrounds where there are typically ladders, rock walls and slides to increase the risk for injury. The Critical Fall Height is defined by the Consumer Product Safety Commission as a height at which if a child were to fall he/she would be unlikely to sustain a life threatening brain injury, generally described as a closed head injury.
How are Endura products different from other rubber or synthetic mulches?
Endura products are unique. Our products are created in-house, in a purpose-built manufacturing facility. Unlike other manufacturers we handle all aspects of production in a single facility. This includes (but is not limited to) collecting tires, processing the rubber, coating the material, and packaging the product. We have significantly greater control over quality and availability. Most other synthetic mulch manufacturers buy pre-processed rubber from other vendors, which can dramatically impact product quality and consistency. Even our landscaping grade material is 99.9 percent metal free. Most of our competitors’ landscaping grade material has a significantly higher (even dangerous) metal content.
Is Endura Expensive?
The initial cost for most applications is two to three times the cost of premium wood mulch. With Endura, you avoid the expense of replacing the material year after year. Based on average retail prices for premium wood mulch, the Endura products pay for themselves in three to five years. Over the life of the product the total savings can be as high as 40 percent.
Will Endura hurt my plants?
Endura is safe to use around general landscaping. Since rubber does not absorb moisture, the plants receive the full benefit of any watering or rain. Unlike wood mulch, the rubber material will not wick moisture from the soil under dry conditions.
Are there any special techniques required for installing Endura products in a residential or commercial landscaping application?
The entire line of Endura products installs the same as any other traditional landscaping material (rocks, wood mulch, etc). We recommend the use of a geotex landscaping fabric under the area, which is similar to what you would need for traditional wood mulch.
How much EnduraSafe will I need for my playground project?
Two factors will determine the amount of material needed. First, calculate the square foot area that you want to cover. Second, determine the installation depth required based on the Fall Height Rating you prefer.
Recommended installation depths are 4 inches or 6 inches. You would use a 4 inch installed depth in order to achieve a fall height rating of 9 feet. A 6-inch installed depth will give you a fall height rating of 15 feet. Once you have determined these two variables, simply use the coverage calculator to determine the amount of material you need.
How much EnduraGroundCover will I need for my landscaping project?
The recommended installation depth for landscaping applications is 1.5-inches. The only other information you need is the coverage area in square feet. Once you know this number, simply use the coverage calculator to determine the amount of material needed.
